Bernadette Kilroy Martin is a Senior Advisor at The GailFosler Group. She is a seasoned macroeconomist with financial sector credentials and senior-level Washington policy experience. She was president of Alpha Edge Global Advisors LLC, a global macroeconomic analysis and investment strategy consultancy for financial industry clients. Alpha Edge was dedicated to delivering in-depth research using macroeconomic principles and data to identify major market turning points and dislocations in asset prices across global markets. Martin leverages her global macro views to provide investment managers a global macro overlay and advice on asset allocation and portfolio strategy decisions.
Prior to founding Alpha Edge, Martin was Vice President of Research and Trading at Clarium Capital Management, a global macro hedge fund that reached $7 billion in assets under management. At Clarium, she was responsible for conducting medium and long-term thematic research that identified global macro investment opportunities. In addition, she performed financial, technical, and statistical analysis and made trading recommendations for FX, rates, equities indexes and commodities.
Before joining the finance industry, Martin was a Member of the Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State, serving in the Office of the Secretary under both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice. At the State Department, she worked on multilateral institutions, development, and foreign assistance. Previously, Martin was a Professional Staff Member at the Senate Budget Committee.
Martin holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and a B.S. in Economics and Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from St. Joseph’s University. She received a National Science Foundation grant for her doctoral thesis entitled Integration Through the Law: ECJ and Governments in the EU. She was a visiting researcher at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels and the European University Institute in Florence. She was also a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles and The Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
