China Rising: Market Opportunity and Policy Challenges
September 22nd, 2015
This report takes a balanced view of China’s short-term economic slowdown, highlights its longer-term structural supports for growth and considers the risks that could upend its economic modernization process. China has made huge progress in its shift from traditional, state-owned enterprise heavy manufacturing to higher-value manufacturing and advanced technology and service sectors. Urbanization, education and financial modernization continue to drive strong income and spending growth, though significant risks remain from income inequality, debt and capital account and exchange rate liberalization.
